Of course this is satire, so at times I paid attention to only the editing techniques in a classic sense and then I also commented on how these techniques lent themselves as classic dramatic devices to contribute to the comedic effect.

Vlog Post of the Day
I was trying to be efficient at school today and went to look at some vlogs that we were given in our syllabus. Funny thing, all of them were blocked by the district powers that be! I promise not to go on a rant about a teacher's access to technology (when we can't even get into a site called Minnesota Stories with our staff computer log-in...), but I will share a vlog that I found on my own and thought was interesting called, RocketBoom. The site has features including a Daily News section and sections like "Humanwire" and "Know your Meme." There looks to be a wide range of stories, including titles like, "A Video Game for African Slums" and "Best Bond (as in James) Gadgets." I watched a posting called, "Kenya: Solar Powered Cell Phones" which was a short news story about just that- solar powered cell phones.
This video was fairly straight forward and felt like a traditional television newscast that is primarily meant to inform a wide audience of people. To me, the video seemed to be fairly high quality, and well made, but then again, I may be expecting low quality footage from a story pertaining to a place that I associate with a lack of resources (ie: shortages of electricity). The interviews and footage were well placed and kept my attention, although this could be in part because I just find solar powered things generally interesting. Close-ups and rule of third camera angles allow a further path into the interview that is pleasing to the eye.
And for fun and because it reminds me a little of the get to know you assignment that we just did, here is one more video from RocketBoom- this one about a girl telling us what she likes about digital art.

Time for another media class
It has certainly been a while since I have used this site, but for the next few months, I will be using the old blog for a new course: CI 5472 Teaching Film, TV, and Media Studies. Giddy-up.
